Policy & Practice: Policy into practice - Local plans are a realintegration opportunity

1 min read
The requirement to develop children and young people's plans was one of the key aspects of the Children Act 2004. By 1 April local authorities will be expected to produce one strategic, overarching plan for all local services for children and young people. This will support more integrated and effective services as a means to secure improved outcomes for children - as envisaged in Every Child Matters.

It will also identify the needs of children and young people and set outa strategy for how and when these will be met so the bringing togetherof services to improve the lives of children and provide moreinformation will be central to these plans.

The plans' development offers real opportunities to drive forward theintegration and improvement of services. Ensuring practical impact willbe crucial through ensuring children and the wider community know whatis planned and that sectors come together to design and deliver aresponse.

A number of councils have already developed their plan, and Sutton, anouter London borough with experience of inter-agency working is one ofthem.
