The majority of Bolton's population live in close-knit, inner-city communities that typically consist of young families. Surveys reveal that many in this group don't feel this is a good area to live. There are problems with criminal behaviour, and there are more neighbourhood crimes and homes in poor condition than there are nationally. Crime has increased over the past two years, commonly violence and threats, often at night and in the home. Such offences are usually carried out by people who have a reputation in the area or are influenced by drink and drugs.
