In England, extended schools are being rolled out in every localauthority.
The Government wants all schools to offer access to extended services by2010, with half of primary schools and a third of secondary schoolsdoing so by 2008. And it has committed 680m for the developmentof extended services from 2006 to 2008.
There are five elements of the core offer that schools must provide:wraparound childcare from 8am to 6pm all year round; a varied menu ofactivities like after-school clubs; parenting support; swift and easyreferral to specialist support services; and providing wider communityaccess to facilities like sports and IT.
SCOTLAND
The Scottish Executive set up the first integrated community schools,initially called new community schools, in 1998.
