Al Aynsley-Green is the children's commissioner for England, but he alsohas responsibility for representing children on UK-wide matters such asimmigration and the armed forces.
The commissioner can only examine general matters concerning childrenand is not allowed to intervene in cases involving individual children.He is expected to identify the interests of children, promote thoseinterests, and examine how policy affects children.
The commissioner's eight priorities are: children in society; tacklingdiscrimination; bullying; asylum and immigration; disability; health andwellbeing; vulnerable children; and youth crime.

SCOTLAND
Kathleen Marshall became Scotland's commissioner for children and youngpeople in April 2004.
Her role includes raising awareness of children's rights, examining theeffect of policy on children, and promoting high-quality services. Shealso carries out research into children's rights and must try to involvechildren in her work. Her work must have an emphasis on the UNConvention on the Rights of the Child.
