Schools? Emotional development? Really? Oh aye, everyone's getting into it now. This pilot scheme was to see how - and with what results - schools could introduce touchy-feely stuff such as self-awareness, empathy and forming positive relationships.
Did it work? At first it seems some schools didn't have a clue what they were supposed to be doing, or "struggled to find an appropriate starting point", as the report puts it. Several focused at first only on aspects of behaviour, rather than the trickier terrain of emotional literacy and social skills. Things got better in the second half of the pilot after messages about how this work could be important started to hit home.
