OK - the Connexions document uses something adapted from the charity YoungMinds: "The strength and capacity of children's minds to grow and develop with confidence and enjoyment, with the capacity to learn from experience and to overcome difficulty and adversity."
What's the scale of the problem? At any one time, it is estimated that between 15 and 20 per cent of young people have a mental health problem, varying in severity but sometimes needing specialist help. A small group, one or two per cent, have a mental illness such as a psychotic disorder or serious depressive illness.
