Oh no, not another Government plan. Afraid so. So far this month we've had the five-year education plan and the spending review and now Home Secretary David Blunkett, never one to shirk from policy announcements, has got in on the act with not one, not two, but three rainforest-destroying guides covering the Government's crime-fighting plans.

Would this be the policy trilogy Tony Blair says marks the end of the "liberal consensus of the 60s" on fighting crime? Apparently, but the lack of hanging and the failure to reintroduce borstals, coupled with the focus on crime prevention, suggests the rhetoric is more spin than fact.
