Policy & Practice: Briefing - Forgotten youth ask for an equal chance

2 mins read

A definitive statement of the views of the UK's youth? Er, no. Barnardo's Give us a chance report is a collection of varying views on several subjects from 130 young people aged six to 22. The charity works with some of the most disadvantaged young people and their families, carers and communities and these young people are all users of their services. This collection is designed to counter the idea that young people are not interested in politics, by presenting their views on social issues.

But this Government is constantly getting the views of young people.

The report acknowledges the creation of the youth minister, the children's commissioners, and other steps to improve communication. But it states much more can be done in terms of listening to young people, involving them and "giving equal weight to their views and opinions".
