More on equality then? Yes - hot on the heels of The Equalities Review (YPN, 29 March-4 April, p10) comes Narrowing the Gap from the Fabian Society. It's a report from a commission including social commentators Polly Toynbee and Peter Townsend.

So why should we take it seriously?

The Fabians are seen as having sway with Gordon Brown and the report was launched and endorsed as "very important" by David Miliband and Brown acolyte Ed Balls. The press consensus seemed to be that it could set an agenda for a Brown government. It scared the life out of The Daily Telegraph, where Simon Heffer called it "positively vicious".
