Police and YOTs in data sharing move

1 min read Youth Justice
An initiative to improve information sharing between police and youth offending teams (YOTs) has kicked off in the north-east of England.

The Youth Justice Board's IT programme, Wiring Up Youth Justice, and the National Policing Improvement Agency are working on a project to improve the sharing of data.

The programme means YOTs using the secure email service, Criminal Justice Secure Mail, can receive notifications by email about reprimands, final warnings, charges, penalty notices and victim information from police.

The information will be sent within 24 hours of police action to help YOTs make decisions about the young person involved sooner and more consistently. A pilot with British Transport Police started last week, with the aim being that earlier notifications will lead to better interventions with children and young people who offend.
