Plea to councils on play charities

The government has written to all councils in England to remind them of the importance of involving the third sector in play, after CYP Now revealed play charities were being ignored by councils.

Two weeks ago, CYP Now reported that local authorities were bypassing the voluntary sector in the delivery of new play services.

In response, the Department for Children, Schools and Families sent a circular to council chiefs reminding them of the conditions of the £235m funding to create or redevelop 3,500 play areas.
