
Crisis talks will take place this week in a bid to ensure the governmentremains on course to meet its target to qualify 4,000 playworkers.
The sector skills council for play, SkillsActive, is set to meet theLearning and Skills Council (LSC), the government quango charged withplanning and funding the necessary training, today (21 May) to raiseconcerns that budgetary constraints will hamper the drive to reach thetarget of having 4,000 playworkers with recognised qualifications by2011.
This target includes getting 3,000 playworkers working towards a Level 3NVQ in Playwork, under the management and funding of LSC, through thegovernment's flagship training programme Train to Gain. Employers ofplayworkers who wish to gain the qualification can choose a trainingprovider via the Train to Gain Regional Response Fund.
