Play: Government plans strategy position

The Government will set out its strategy for children's play issues later this year.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has said it will publish astatement some time in the summer, setting out "how we will take playforward".

It will follow on from the establishment of a cross-departmental workinggroup on children's play and is likely to contain a fuller response toLabour MP Frank Dobson's review of children's play, Getting SeriousAbout Play, which was published in 2004.

However, a department spokeswoman said the publication was unlikely toset out clear targets. "At this stage, it will be much more of a visionstatement," she added.
