Physical technology: Council tries electronic equipment

Children and young people in Reading and Leicester are set to benefit from state-of-the-art electronic playgrounds aimed at getting them fit and active "by stealth".

The playgrounds use traditional play equipment along with the i.playsystem, which works by giving the player a sequence of visual and oralcommands, which must be completed through physical activities such asrunning, jumping and twisting. Andy Connelly, councillor for culture andleisure at Leicester, said: "It is great to be able to offer localfamilies a safe place where they can spend quality time and enjoyoutdoor activities."
