Are local authorities going to have to report to a new set of national indicators?
Both Strong and Prosperous Communities - the most recent local government white paper - and the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 refer to a set of statutory improvement targets tied into each local area agreement. As promised in that white paper, the government has reduced the total number of national indicators that apply to local authorities and local authority partnerships to 198. In addition, local areas are able to negotiate a maximum of 35 targets to better represent local priorities.
