PCTs urged to engage with adolescents

1 min read Health Youth Work
Primary care trusts must go the extra mile to meet the health needs of teenagers, according to a government pilot examining how to improve NHS services for adolescents.

City and Hackney Teaching Primary Care Trust (PCT) told CYP Now that a different approach was needed to keep teens healthy and that young people must be involved in decisions about their healthcare.

The trust is one of four pilot adolescent health demonstration sites. The sites were selected by the Department of Health (DH) to test new ways to deliver health to young people, particularly the vulnerable. An evaluation of the two-year pilots is due to be published by the DH in the spring.

Adrian Kelly, teenage pregnancy co-ordinator in Hackney, said: "The engagement and involvement of young people has ensured we get things right."
