PCTs slam NHS health visitor data

1 min read Health
Primary care trusts (PCTs) across England have slated figures used by the NHS to map the provision of health visitors, branding them "inaccurate".

According to the data, published in response to a parliamentary questionearlier this month, Waltham Forest PCT saw a drop from 50 healthvisitors in 2008 to none in 2009. But a spokeswoman for the PCT said:"We had 50 health visitors in 2008, which increased by 0.5 in 2009. Weare concerned about these figures and will be taking the matter up withthe Department of Health."

The data purports to show the number of health visitors in each PCT on30 September 2008 and 30 September 2009 and forms part of the NHSInformation Centre (IC) Workforce Census.

According to the information centre's website, it delivers "theinformation frontline services need to meet their priorities" and is thesource of data for official statistics published by the Department ofHealth.
