Project: Young people working with trainee police community support officers

Funding: No funding

Aim: To teach trainee police community support officers to deal with young people and give them a better understanding of the police

- Young people in the West Midlands have been working with 22 trainee police community support officers (PCSOs) to teach them how to interact with adolescents.

Students at Solihull College have been working with the trainees by acting as members of the public in a series of role-plays.

Police sergeant Paul Dean said the project gave young people the chance to work with the PCSOs and helped to assess the trainees knowledge, understanding, skills, attitude and behaviour. "Hopefully links will have been built with our younger community who will now have a more informed understanding of the PCSO role," he said.
