Mock train crash used to inform teenagers of railway play danger

1 min read Youth Justice
Young people in the West Midlands have been shown an explosive example of what can happen when you play on railway lines.

British Transport Police held a mock train crash to teach young people about the dangers of playing on the railways last week. It was part of the force's summer initiative to keep young people safe and away from the tracks and is believed to be the first initiative of its kind.

More than 200 children watched last week as a crash was simulated between two disused trains, supposedly as a result of young people messing around on the line, at a site in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The children looked on as actors playing bleeding and shocked passengers were helped off the train by emergency services who tended to their needs. The young people were given a commentary then watched as the children who caused the disaster were arrested by police. The aim was to show that playing on the line can lead to prison or death.
