Youth minister Margaret Hodge delivered the news on a prerecorded video shown at the parliament's annual sitting in Lancaster last week. She promised she would attend next year's event, which will be held in Stirling in Scotland.
Hodge also said she had written to all members of Parliament asking them to make links with their local youth parliament members and "support them as much as they can".
Dave Murray, a detached youth worker at the City of Sunderland Council, said the event had empowered the young people, who now wanted to return home and spread the word.
