Participation: Youth parliament in visit to Middle East

The visit came about after the Bahrain Government asked the UK Youth Parliament, via the British Council, to help its young people establish their own democratic assembly.

Kate Parish, development co-ordinator for the UK Youth Parliament, said: "Bahrain is a young democracy and turnout at their first elections was very low so the Government decided to get young people involved in the democratic process."

During the four-day visit the UK delegation will meet with Bahraini young people and local business leaders.
