The strategy, launched yesterday (27 January), follows the draft consultation, which was carried out by the Mayor's Children and Young People's Unit last year (YPN, 16-22 April 2003, p4). It has been updated to include references to the green paper, Every Child Matters.
Murziline Parchment, a policy director for service delivery at the Mayor's Office, said: "The green paper meant that we changed the layout of the document to reflect the national strategy direction.
"We received 1,047 responses from young people, which was phenomenal. Their key priorities were safety in parks, sports facilities and free transport.
"The mayor is working on transport already and we are planning a pilot to make parks safer. We will also be looking at sports facilities and launching a play day and play strategy later in the summer as part of London's Olympic bid."
