Participation: Young people have their say through online radio

1 min read

The Department for Constitutional Affairs has agreed to fund internet radio organisation Radiowaves to supply equipment and resources to 30 schools across England.

Young people will use these to go into their local communities, and carry out interviews to find out more about local democracy and the concerns of residents - including their peers.

They will also be supplied with editing equipment to turn the interviews into radio programmes, which they will then publish on Radiowaves' web site. Other young people will be able to access the programmes, and discuss the issues raised.

Lucy Neale, account manager at Radiowaves, said: "Anyone in the Radiowaves network can contribute to the station, and anyone in the country will be able to comment on the stories on there. We're hoping it is going to be a massive thing."
