Participation in Action: Cheshire care leavers cook up good food guide

Young care leavers have created a cookbook for their peers who are leaving the care system, so they can eat healthily on a budget.

Provider The Cheshire East Care Leavers Group

Name The Easy Pleasy Cookbook

According to data released by the Office for National Statistics, the average household spent £83.60 on food and drink each week last year. However young people from Cheshire East Care Leavers Group estimate care leavers without a job have just £21 a week to spend on food, drink and transport after covering their bills.

To combat this issue, the young people have created the "Easy Pleasy Cookbook" to help care leavers to eat healthily on a tight budget.

Launched last month with help from Reggae Reggae Sauce founder Levi Roots, the book contains dozens of recipes to help young people leaving care prepare and cook nutritious meals.
