Participation: Government to release decision-making guide

1 min read

The guidance will be informed by a report prepared by Professor Geoff Whitty, director of the Institute of Education at the University of London, who has been asked by schools minister Lord Adonis to investigate the operation of school councils across England.

Whitty is expected to provide an interim report to the Government in September and a full report early next year.

His review aims to identify good practice in involving young people in decision-making, which can then be incorporated into a guidance document.

It is expected to go further than the Working together: giving children and young people a say guidelines, which were produced by the Department for Education and Skills two years ago.
