Outdoor education: Brathay Hall to step up early intervention workon gangs

1 min read

The trust is in talks with Leap, a conflict mediation charity, to run a joint early intervention programme across all London boroughs with the support of the Metropolitan Police.

The programme will build on Brathay's work on Lambeth Youth and Play Services' X-it programme, which also includes voluntary group In-Volve (YPN, 21-27 February, p7).

This project helps 14- to 17-year-olds learn how to resist pressure to join gangs, identify positive goals and work towards achieving them. It includes a week-long residential.

Karen Stuart, assistant head of consulting at Brathay, said: "Through working with X-it we have realised we have specific skills on working with young people in gangs and on the back of this we are talking to different areas to offer our skills."
