Opportunity cards: Transport company pulls out of scheme

1 min read

TfL was one of a number of companies that had expressed an interest in developing the scheme, outlined in last year's Youth Matters green paper (YPN, 15-21 March, p3).

A TfL spokeswoman said: "We had discussions with the Department for Education and Skills on the cards, but decided that our eligibility policy does not match theirs, which is more open." TfL wanted to target young people in education or training, while the education department wants to target all young people.

TfL last week announced that free transport on buses and trams would extend from September this year to 17- and 18-year-olds in London in full-time education or training. Tube fares will not be included in the deal.
