Youth Services: Opportunity cards may be delayed

The youth minister has admitted the youth opportunity card trials are likely to be delayed.

The schemes are meant to launch in the autumn, but the authorities piloting the cards have expressed doubts about whether this is achievable (YPN, 14-20 June, p3). And last week Beverley Hughes admitted: "We may have to revise the original timescale."

In a written parliamentary question Sharon Hodgson, Labour MP for Gateshead East and Washington West, asked what technology was in place to help back the launch of the proposed Sunderland trial.

Hughes said the Government is currently looking at its options. "There is a great deal of detailed analysis to be done and it is important to take the time to ensure we get it right," she said.
