Opportunity cards: Pilots to reach out to disadvantaged

1 min read

A briefing note on the pilots circulated by the Department for Education and Skills says the amount of money given to disadvantaged young people in monthly top-ups will be varied between pilots to discover how much is needed to change behaviour.

The note says there will now be 10 pilots, an increase on the eight originally envisaged in the Youth Matters green paper, backed by a 30m fund over two years.

Three pilots will give 12 a month to the targeted group, and a further three will give 25 a month. Two will give all young people an initial 12 payment, followed by another 12 a month for targeted young people.
