Bolton, Cambridgeshire, Camden, Durham, Lincolnshire, Liverpool, Nottingham, Suffolk, Sunderland and Tower Hamlets were named as the 10 pilot areas at the launch of Youth Matters: Next Steps last week. They are waiting for guidance on the scope of the pilots, and the amount of funding to be given, while building the infrastructure needed for the scheme.
Monthly credits of either 12 or 25 will be placed on the cards, and government top-up payments to disadvantaged young people will also vary.
In Tower Hamlets, which contracts out most of its youth work delivery, the youth and community service is leading the pilot. Kevin Munday, service development manager, said he hopes some activities will be on offer by the end of the summer.
