Opinion: The Ferret ... digs behind the headlines

A local newspaper report of a meeting last week revealed the difference perfectly.

A group of young people from Reading met their MP, Martin Salter, at a question and answer session set up by Connexions Berkshire.

The newspaper headlined young people's main concern as the lack of places to meet. Not surprising, as one club has already closed and another is due for closure. Young people say they have nowhere to go but the streets.

One 15-year-old complained about people calling the police when they saw him hanging around with friends near his house.

Over to Mr Salter: "One of the biggest problems is people feeling threatened by large groups of youths." OK, then, be like that.
