Opinion: Soapbox - Children's centres depend on partnerships

As pointed out in a recent editorial, cash alone won't solve the worries around children's centres (Children Now, 24-30 January). It is imperative that the voluntary, statutory and private sectors work together as partners.

The last seven years have seen Busy Bees work closely with localauthorities and NHS trusts and we've learned what needs to be in placeif these partnerships are to succeed.

Firstly, every one of our partnerships has been characterised by an openand transparent agreement to finding the best solution for the deliveryof the Every Child Matters agenda and the NHS Agenda for Change. Thishas been underpinned by an understanding of each other's roles,responsibilities and, ultimately, what each can bring to thepartnership.

We've also found that the first few months of partnership working arecritical and the preparation of the tender document and time spentdiscussing contract details can provide the necessary confidence to goforward.
