YES - HILARY CHAMBERLAIN, POLICY MANAGER, PARENTLINE PLUS
I am very concerned web site videos featuring children and young people involved in violent and malicious acts are not censored. This is of great concern to parents.
Parentline Plus runs an anti-bullying campaign called Be Someone to Tell that aims to raise awareness of the problem and encourage victims to speak out. There also doesn't seem to be a limit on the age a person has to be to upload this material in the first place - this needs to be tackled.
YES - ANISHA CLARKE, 18, WEST LONDON
I think web sites should censor violent videos. There aren't a lot of strong individuals who have the courage to watch it and not do it. This type of material only encourages young people to try it themselves.
It's an influence like music videos, which make young people want big cars and expensive jewellery.
Unnecessarily watching someone else's pain as a laugh is not enjoyment. If you want violence you can watch boxing on television.
Real violence shouldn't be as accessible as it is.
NO - HAYDEN HEWITT, CO-FOUNDER, LIVELEAK, A WEB SITE THAT ALLOWS USERS TO POST VIDEOS
If we censored everything people didn't like we wouldn't know about anything that happens in the world, either good or bad.
We've had all this before with "video nasties"; there's no evidence this turns people into raving psych-opaths. You have to look at the root causes of behaviour. However, I can't understand why you would let a child go on the internet alone.
We would really welcome the chance to work with young people's organisations on these issues.
YES - JIM O'NEILL, PROFESSIONAL OFFICER FOR SCOTLAND, PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION OF TEACHERS
These sites are used irresponsibly by certain young people to bully others. Our members have told us of some quite horrendous things being posted.
We would like web sites to pre-screen content, because once it has gone up the damage has been done. We also have experience of offensive material on web sites not being taken down immediately; sometimes it takes several months before it is removed.
