Vox pop - Should violent video games be banned in youth prisons?

1 min read Youth Justice
The Home Affairs Committee has said violent video games and DVDs should be banned from young offender institutions (YOIs).

NO: Danny Richardson, 17, Rathbone learner, Manchester

We used to go on games like Mortal Kombat during our association (recreation) periods at Wetherby YOI, which were only an hour a day. We'd get quite competitive while we played but there was never any bother. Being on the PlayStation helped get rid of some adrenaline and it chilled me out. Everyone just saw them as games.

I wouldn't want young kids playing on them, though - especially violent games based on the street like Grand Theft Auto. Prison made me think about my life and what I wanted to do and I'm making real progress at Rathbone now.
