Opinion: If I were in charge of ... voting

I would change the eligibility of young people to vote so that they can vote at 16. At the age of 16 if you finish school and work, and you're liable to pay taxes even though you have no say over how taxes are spent because you're not able to vote.

I would also change the education system so that the citizenship programme is more focused on politics and how much a vote can make a difference to the outcome of an election.

At my school, citizenship focused more on crime and punishment. It needs to be made compulsory and to be seen as important. At the moment it's seen as a joke subject. It would help if MPs and councillors gave talks at schools.
