Opinion: If I were in charge of The Children's Commissioner - GhinaMorgan, 17, London

1 min read
As the commissioner for England I would make the involvement of children and young people in decision-making compulsory and show the whole of England that our opinions matter.

I would make the adoption of the National Youth Agency's Hear by Rightstandard compulsory for all local authorities. Commitment to workingtowards these standards ensures councils are involving children andyoung people in the development of all services that they are in contactwith.

Being a representative from the youth forum of a borough that is workingat the advanced level of Hear by Right I have tasted the fruits ofcouncil labour and am confident that if this level of youth involvementwas nationwide our views would need no "representation", they wouldbecome a fundamental part of decision-making.

Showing young people in this light could kill two birds with one stone:improve services and rid us of our good-for-nothing Asbo-nationimage.
