Acting quite spontaneously and with complete manufactured confidence, I pulled the backseat door open and told Anton to get out. The three men surrounded me, almost incredulous at what I was doing. I told them I had wanted to have a word with him for some time, and hauled Anton alongside me to the youth centre. Unfortunately, the three men followed closely, so I asked them what they wanted. Pointing to Anton, they said they were going to "sort him out". Apparently he had thrust a knife into their nephew's face, scratching him and drawing blood. "Was this true?" I asked Anton, acutely conscious of trying to remain in the middle rather than fuelling the confrontation. He acknowledged this was what he had done.
