Opinion: Hot issue - Were youth services misled on TransformingYouth Work?

3 mins read

YES - Miriam Jackson, director, Youth Work Unit for Yorkshire and the Humber

People in my region had an expectation that there would be something to replace Transforming Youth Work that would allow them to continue what they had been doing. They want to see real guidance on the new Youth Opportunity Fund and see whether it specifies how much should be reserved for developing youth work, but what we're hearing is this new fund is for direct delivery to young people.

Our principal youth officers group has also written to the Department for Education and Skills to express concern. Our heads of service would say they never expected that the fund would stop, as everything in Youth Matters points to changes that need infrastructure support work for the profession.
