YES - Anne Weyman, chief executive, fpa

Peer education can be a useful tool in teaching sex and relationship issues to young people. All young people are entitled to comprehensive sex and relationships education (SRE) delivered by fully trained and expert professionals, and peer education can be an effective component. It is vital that SRE is made compulsory within the National Curriculum in primary and secondary schools.

SRE needs to be age-appropriate and should cover everything from puberty to emotions, relationships, contraception and sexually transmitted infections.

Young people must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to negotiate the relationships they want at the time that is right for them - and they need the ability to resist peer pressure.
