Opinion: Hot issue - Are the Tories serious about engaging the young?

1 min read
Conservative leader David Cameron urged politicians to focus on the social influences that are driving youth offending and show more love to young people, in a speech made last week to the Centre for Social Justice.

NO - Robert Bell, director, Carnegie - Young People Initiative

There is no evidence that the Conservatives have begun listening and acting on what young people say, and no commitment to making sure a Conservative government gives due weight to children and young people's views. YES - Paul Oginski, project director, Young Adult Trust

The Young Adult Trust came about after David Cameron approached over 20 youth organisations and asked us to work together and develop ways of engaging young people. We have been working together, we have been supported and, as a result, we will develop new ways of supporting thousands of young people. Cameron's approach is empowering youth organisations, so credit where it is due.
