Opinion: Vox Pop - Can the Conservatives be trusted on child poverty?

Conservative leader David Cameron last week attacked Labour's record on child poverty, saying the poor have got poorer. He said a Conservative government should be judged on its success in tackling the problem.

Not yet. David Cameron said: "We can end poverty - I mean it."

Fantastic words, but unlike al- the other mainstream parties, he hasn't yet made this a promise. So how can we trust that Cameron will turn his "aspiration" to end child poverty into an election pledge?

If his proposals to retain tax credits and do more to tackle underlying poverty are backed by certainty that the Conservatives will not scrap the commitment to end child poverty in a generation, it will create a genuine sense of opportunity for child poverty campaigners.
