Opinion: Hot Issue - Are deliverers confused by Every ChildMatters?

1 min read

YES - JULES MASON, head of citizenship and development, British Youth Council

Service deliverers are confused, especially on ensuring they hit all five outcomes, not just one. There is a lot of confusion here on outcomes, such as achieving economic wellbeing and making a positive contribution and what this looks like when it's delivered. Youth work is one of the more advanced areas on Every Child Matters, closely followed by health, but other public services are less advanced, possibly due to a lack of confidence.

We won the Chartered Institute of Public Relations award last year for our Good Place to Grow Up consultation and we've tried to carry that good practice into our children and young people's plan, so I think service deliverers here have a good sense of what's going on. The beauty of the Every Child Matters outcomes is how clear and simple they are.
