Opinion: Feedback

3 mins read

I read with interest about Home Secretary John Reid's measures designed to help families with problem children (YPN, 22-28 November, p3).

These proposals can only succeed, in terms of making a positive difference to families and communities, if they are seen as support packages and not stigmatised punitive measures.

At Parentline Plus, we know that many parents have been asking for help for a long time, yet it is ironic that they only get help when their children play truant, offend or are deemed as anti-social. This is when early intervention and long-term prevention are crucial and we welcome anything that would make parental support more available.
