Last week Margaret Smith was cleared of murdering her four-month-old son, and her conviction was overturned after criticism of the evidence given by Professor Sir Roy Meadows at the original trial.
Mrs Smith's successful appeal comes after a series of high-profile cases where child murder convictions were quashed following questions about the validity of Meadows' evidence.
As a high-profile and highly respected paediatrician, Professor Meadows' views had originally influenced the outcome of a series of cot death cases until his interpretation of the evidence began to be questioned.
Social services departments were asked by the Government in January to review all cot death cases that had relied on Professor Meadows' evidence.
