A positive approach

I very much agree with Howard Williamson's comments on the fresh and positive approaches emanating from Gordon Brown's government (CYP Now, 5-11 September).

Young people will hopefully be able to celebrate this new approach in some style if Brown's suggestion that members of the UK Youth Parliament should be allowed to sit in the House of Commons chamber comes to fruition. This proposal is currently progressing through the system and would be the very best signal that young people are finally welcome at the very heart of government. Members of the youth parliament will undoubtedly come up with great ideas on how to make the most of the opportunity. As well as recognising young people's contributions to raising their own profile, it's also worth remembering to pay tribute to the UK's growing army of skilled and dedicated youth participation workers. Their support of young people's voices has played a massive role in taking this agenda forward and helped show that involving young people is the best way of developing meaningful and relevant policy. And congratulations on the new-look magazine.
