Open Weekend to get under way

Youth Work
Youth services in England are preparing to run extra activities on 10 and 11 July as part of the government-backed Open Weekend.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families has written to all local authorities in England to encourage them to open up youth clubs and projects to help to determine whether local young people want more activities at weekends. It then hopes that councils will provide regular weekend activities for young people.

Children's minister Dawn Primarolo said: "I want to see local areas pulling out all the stops to make sure there are places open for young people on Friday and Saturday nights, because that is obviously the time they most want and need them."
