One thousand people rally to save youth services

Young people and youth workers from across the country convene in Solihull for Choose Youth event to protest against cuts.

Rally calls for action

Youth workers and young people are being urged to lobby councillors and MPs about the cuts faced by services for young people.

Speaking at the Choose Youth rally on 12 February, Julie Hilling, Labour MP for Bolton West, told delegates that they needed to fill politicians' inboxes with complaints about cuts to youth services. "What makes a difference is telling your local politicians - the Tories, the Liberal Democrats and Labour MPs - to save your youth service," she said.

Around 1,000 youth workers and young people attended the rally in Solihull. A survey published earlier this month by CYP Now and Unite the union found that most services for young people faced budget cuts of up to 30 per cent.
