On the Ground: Youth Magazine round-up

1 min read
Music is the cover story for the first issue of Southwark's new youth magazine Whatever ... Young writers from the magazine find out about the borough's Creative Media Music Project, which gives young people the chance to record their own tracks and perform at concerts and events. Musician Courtney Pine and singer Omar both attended the project in their younger days and the writers conclude it's "the perfect place to get into music".

Herefordshire's online youth magazine InSITE features stories from Dan and Elliot, who both suffered brain injuries. Dan was injured when a car he was travelling in crashed into a house. He was hospitalised for a year and now has problems concentrating. Elliot was left in a coma after being assaulted and now struggles to remember things. Both are receiving help from a local charity, but say it is difficult growing up with an "invisible" disability.

LIK:T, a magazine for young lesbian and bisexual women, is using its latest issue to encourage more people to volunteer. It talks about how there are lots of opportunities for gay young people living in the North West to give their time as well as meet interesting people. As one of the young writers says: "Volunteering gives you a good grounding for whatever you do in the future."
