Ofsted's education all-rounder: Sean Harford, Ofsted's director for education

3 mins read Education Ofsted Interview
Jess Brown meets Sean Harford, Ofsted's director for education.

Sean Harford took on responsibility for Ofsted's early years work in September 2015 following the departure of director of early education Nick Hudson. Harford now holds the brief for all of the inspectorate's education work.

A year into the role, has it been a challenge holding both the education and early years briefs?

It's challenging, but I'm really enjoying the role. We see education as covering that spectrum from early years, so it's not really about juggling dual roles.

It has brought together what we see as the really important education remits within our work, through early years, schools to further education and skills. I very much see this as a continuum for children and young people.
