
When Eleanor Schooling was appointed as Ofsted interim director of social care last August, she was joining an organisation under intense pressure. But despite problems with reduced funding, workforce morale and the quality of its inspection programme, she decided to put off her planned retirement at the end of the year and instead commit to staying until December 2016.
With such a short window to make an impact, Schooling's main task will be to steady the ship.
